Afghanistan is the only country in the world that bans women and girls from education.

Afghanistan Education Action gives women and girls in Afghanistan free, quality education online, while championing human rights. Through education, advocacy and research, we work for positive and lasting change.

Questions, answered

Where does my donation go?

We are a small charity funded by trusts, foundations and individual supporters. Their gifts keep our online schools running and free for every student.

Are you a registered charity?

Yes. We are a registered charitable incorporated organisation with the Charity Commission for England and Wales, number 1208464.

Can I donate by cheque or bank transfer?

Yes. Make cheques payable to Afghanistan Education Action and post them to The Grains Store, Hills Barns, Appledram Lane South, Chichester, West Sussex, PO20 7EG. For a bank transfer, get in touch and we will send the details.

How do you keep students safe?

Safety comes first. Classes run discreetly online, and when state-imposed internet blackouts cut connections we fall back on pre-downloaded materials, recorded lessons and messaging groups so learning continues.

Who are your students?

Mostly girls and young women shut out of formal education. We also welcome boys, who are equally entitled to a well-rounded education and whose presence counters an increasingly extremist school system.

Are you taking new students?

Yes. We accept new students every day. Get in touch through this website and we will help you find the right class.

Can I volunteer as a teacher?

Yes. Qualified teachers from around the world volunteer to teach in Persian or English, from maths and science to art and coding. Therapists are welcome too.

Can my trust or company partner with you?

Yes. We welcome trusts, foundations and corporate partners. Get in touch and we will share our partnership information.

Who leads Afghanistan Education Action?

Our founder and CEO, Angela Ghayour, with Louise Kenny as Chair of Trustees, alongside trustees Mandy Fazeli, Jill Frampton and Lucia Withers.
